EX-CON STABS WIFE IN THE PRESENCE OF HUNDREDS By Rafael Contreras Bueno, Cuba Free Press.

PINAR DEL RÍO - Aniceto Romero was in jail when someone first told him his wife was a practicing 'jinetera' or prostitute. When he got out, he tracked her to the Los Palacios train station and stabbed her to death in front of hundreds of horrified onlookers.

"Nobody could have done anything. The man went crazy slashing with the knife," said one waiting passenger afterwards. Romero stabbed his wife numerous times, even, apparently, after she was dead.

Some women in Cuba engage in prostitution with the connivance of their husbands or lovers as a means of obtaining hard currency for use in dollar stores.
