PETTY CRIME ON THE INCREASE IN CENTRAL CUBA By Jorge Diego Rodríguez, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - Petty crime is on the increase in central Cuba and the National Police seem powerless against it. In a typical case, two youths snatched a traveler's luggage while he changed buses Tuesday (Sept. 28) at Aguada de Pasajeros in Cienfuegos province.

Carlos Machín González, 50, was waiting in front of "El conejito" (Little Rabbit) cafeteria to catch the bus to his home in Sancti Spíritus in the province of the same name when the thieves made off with his belongings.

Cases like this are reported with alarming frequency.
