WELL-KNOWN DISSIDENT DISAPPEARS AFTER ARREST By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press..
HAVANA - Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet González was arrested Wednesday morning (Sept. 8) and as of the next day his family did not know where he was being held. Biscet González, 38, is the president of the Lawton Human Rights Foundation and an advisor to the Civic Brotherhood School for Civil Disobedience.
According to a witness, Biscet was arrested on San Francisco Street in Havana. Since then, Elsa Morejón Hernández, his wife has been looking for him unsuccessfully. She said she had first gone to the Investigations Center at 100 and Aldabó Streets where the political police have taken Biscet 19 times in the last 18 months. Later, she said, she had been to the Office of State Security (OSS) installation known as Villa Marista and to the police stations in Lawton and Aguilera. Officials at all four Interior Ministry dependencies denied holding Biscet and gave no information on his whereabouts.
"Oscar Elías Biscet González has disappeared," his wife said on Thursday. "I'm concerned for his health because he assured me that if he were arrested he would go on a hunger strike," she said.
Four others, three directors of the Civic Brotherhood School and an independent journalist, were also arrested at their homes on Wednesday, between 5:00 and 5:30 am.
