IMPRISONED JOURNALIST ON HUNGER STRIKE By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - Independent journalist Jesós Joel Díaz Hernandez, 25, and inmate Daniel Camacho Marchena continue a hunger strike begun July 12 in the "Canaleta" prison, Ciego de Avila province.

The hunger strikers demand the Cuban government respect human rights and liberate political prisoners, and they condemn the sinking of the tugboat "March 13" some years ago.

Díaz Hernández is the director of the Avileña Cooperative of Independent Journalists (CAPI). He is not receiving medical attention in his punishment cell, according to the hunger strike participants.

The journalist was sentenced to four years of work camp imprisonment Jan. 18 during a supposed "state of emergency." At the time of his sentencing, the correspondent did not work for the state.
