YOUTH STABBED AT JULIO REYES CAIRO HIGH SCHOOL By Magdelivia Hidalgo for Cuba Free Press
Las Tunas.- On March 7, Yusnier Escobar Ramirez, a 12th grade student at the Institute of the Pedagogic Sciences Julio Reyes Cairo, was stabbed twice in the abdomen and thorax, injuring his gallstone, liver and intestines.
Alexis Rodriguez, an 11th grade student at the same high school allegedly stabbed the victim in a dispute over a stolen pair of boots that had been returned to the school. School officials were unaware that young Rodriguez was armed.
The situation worsened when transportation could not be found to take the victim to the nearest hospital. Finally, the victim was placed on top of a table and carried to the road about 3,000 meters away. Once there, the caretakers flagged down a jeep and the youth was taken to Jobabo. There he was finally given first aid and operated on.
Later he was transferred to Ernesto Guevara Hospital in the city. The boy remains in critical condition and doctors fear for his life. Neighbors in the township of Las Tunas report alarm over the increasing use of violence among the young people.
