OSS AGENTS CONTINUE HARASSING PEACEFUL CRITICS By Margarita Yero, Cuba Free Press.
SANTIAGO - Rolando Bestard Fabart has told this reporter that agents of the Office of State Security (OSS) continually harass him and his family. He is director of the independent library "Pedro Luis Boitel" and general secretary of the Gerardo González Club of Former Political Prisoners.
On the night of Feb. 10, OSS agents also visited the residences of Carlos Tabares y Walter Carbonell and told them they were forbidden to participate in the mass in El Cobre (Village of Copper) on Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999. The officers accused Tabares and Carbonell of having summoned the members of all the opposition movements to join in the ceremony that day of the cardinals and bishops visiting Cuba. The ceremony was scheduled to be at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Charity.
The agents threatened Bestard Fabart and his wife by telling them how risky it would be for them to continue with their work as dissidents. In the same manner the officers criticized the support the government opponents had given to reporter Margarita Yero when employees of the department of housing threatened to evict Yero from her residence as part of a plan to legally interrupt her journalistic work.
The couple was warned that they could be taken to court under charges of "dangerousness."
